Vampire's Kiss (1989)

Vampire's Kiss (1989)
Member Rating:
Vampire's Kiss follows the story of yuppie literary agent Peter Loew (Nicolas Cage) as he descends into madness and vampirism. Loew believes he has been bitten by a vampire (Jennifer Beals) and is slowly becoming one himself, despite the contrary opinion of his therapist (Elizabeth Ashley). He then begins to wage a campaign of escalating terror against his secretary and first potential victim, Alva (Maria Conchita Alonso, looking appropriately baffled). Alva begs her parents to let her stay home from work to avoid her unusual boss, but they force her to go on that fateful day, and the plot unfolds. Vampire's Kiss became a cult item on the basis of Cage's outrageous performance: at one point he actually eats a live cockroach. ~ Jeremy Beday, Rovi

Nick Cage plays a guy who's convinced he's becoming a vampire after being bitten by a woman he picks up in a bar, but in reality he's a guy losing his mind, or is he? He torments the hell of out his secretary as he starts cracking up more and more as the movie progresses. It's hilarious! This movie is off beat with a haunting music score and a strange kind of humor (kinda like 'Falling Down' with Michael Douglas). If you liked Falling Down, you will like this. Check it out.

this is written by the same guy who wrote 'after hours'. i wish he would wite more screenplays. cage's performance is weird and ill-advised yet hilarious. there are good twists to the plot. the main character is unsympathetic, but whatever. i enjoy a good cautionary tale to one of hope anyday.

20 years ago, Nicolas Cage made weird art-house movies that often made little sense, and this is one of them. Although I like the movie quite a lot for Cage's bizarre and often hilarious performance, I must admit I have no idea what the point of this movie is. Is it a horror movie? A comedy? A character study? Some kind of 80s anti-yuppie social commentary? Who knows? The scene where Cage is lurking in the dance club looking for his first victim while wearing his set of plastic teeth is sheer genius though.
