Synopsis of The Case of Howard Phillips Lovecraft

Directors Patrick Mario Bernard and Pierre Trividic team to explore the remarkable life of legendary horror/fantasy author H.P. Lovecraft in a highly unorthodox documentary that vividly portrays the paranoia and madness of the author's best-known works. A highly imaginative author who had become remarkably disillusioned with life by the time he reached adulthood, Lovecraft eschewed reality to pen tell tales that were truly nightmarish. The detailed mythologies he created in such stories as At the Mountains of Madness and The Call of Cthulu were so rich in texture and tone that they inspired both deep-rooted fear as well as a loyal fan-base. Despite the fact that the frequently unemployed author was woefully underappreciated during his own lifetime, his writings have endured to inspire - and terrify - generations of filmmakers and horror fiction novelists. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
