I agree the movie details are misleading. This is not a coherent story but a series of vignettes loosely tied together with characters emerging disappearing and then reemerging. The movie owes a lot to Beckett, Sarte, Ionesco and even Shakespeare's farce. But, for me it's real joy was in the cinematography. Each vignette was simply framed with the camera never moving, the action all occurring within the frame much as though a two dimensional picture suddenly came to life. The lighting , flat coloration and careful choreography of the limited action that plays with time, sometimes seeming to occur in slow motion, gives the whole movie an incredibly surreal quality. A unique accomplishment by filmmaker Andersson who has created a new cinematic genre. Not depressing at all. Quite amusing and entertaining. Unless perhaps you see some of your relatives portrayed in the film and you take this personally.

Although the synopsis is positively misleading - so much so, in fact, that it seems to be the wrong one altogether - this is a great non-traditional, unconventional little film that slowly creeps into your blood. Well-written, humorous, and touching, it's well worth a viewing.
