There were several movies focusing on religious cults that came out around this time. This one is mediocre at best. It just seemed forced and silly at times. The production values, I felt, were in line with those of a TV movie of the week. Some of the acting was weak, although I did like the guy who played the deprogrammer. It's not a bad movie, but it could have been better.
