Mark Wahlberg stars in Paramount Pictures' inspirational docudrama exploring the remarkable rise of Massachusetts-born, junior welterweight title winner "Irish" Micky Ward. A determined pugilist whose career in the ring was shepherded by his loyal half-brother, Dicky (Christian Bale) -- a hard-living boxer-turned-trainer whose own career in the ring was nearly sent down for the count due to drugs and crime -- perennial underdog Irish Micky rebounded from a disheartening series of defeats to win both the WBU Intercontinental Lightweight title and the WBU Light Welterweight title thanks to a fierce combination of determination and hard work. A phenomenal real life story, which was acted perfectly by Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg presenting a no compromise picture of the life of Mickey Ward and his totally dysfunctional family. Christian Bale was magnificent was the strung out brother, who was so addled he didn't know HBO was making a movie on "Crack" addiction and not his fighting come back. Melissa Leo was fantastic as the most obnoxious "B" mom, who ran her roost with an Iron Skillet (which she liked to fling at her husband) and threaten her other children. Amy Adams was super as Mickey's love, who helped him get out of the dysfunction to become the True Champion he turned out to be. Oscar worthy movie!!!

First, like some have said, I rarely if ever give 5 star ratings. Second, I am a huge Rocky fan. So, let me say, this movie is one of THE, if not the THE best "boxing" moviesthat has ever been made. Period. Absolutely great movie in every way. Boxing scenes were great, but the story is so compelling. Whalberg and Bale are fantastic in their roles. Bale is just a phenemonal actor. This is MUST SEE.

This is the best movie of the year. I just saw "The fighter" tonight and I was so in love with the movie and the characters , I forgot I was in a movie theatre. If this movie doesnt have awards pouring in, it will be a true shame. And, I'm a chic!
