A compelling, based-on-facts story with decent actors. I thought the sex scenes were thrown in for ratings. It got to the point of "here we go again!" Still worth a viewing, though. From what I've read, nothing is known of what happened to Bryant in her later years.

Unknownly pregnant, a young starving women steals food and is sold as a slave for her crime. Her owner is a very attractive powerful man who falls in love with her. After she escapes, he stops at nothing to find her. While on the run she falls in love and has a second child. That's all I want to tell you. I don't want to spoil the movie for you. This women is a hero. I plan to buy this movie. I can't wait to watch it again.

I'm wondering if Kay saw the same movie I did because Mary was not sold into slavery and (I guess she is referring to Lt. Clark, who was by no means powerful) no one was given ownership of her. She was pregnant when she boarded the ship and had her first child on the crossing to Botany Bay, Australia. She never fell in love with the Lieutenant either, but married another inmate being transported and has his child three years after they land in Australia. Anyway, If you can tolerate the bad Cornish accents, you will enjoy this movie. The characters go through so much just to survive that you are glad you were born in another time and place. It gives you new respect for our forefathers who lived in difficult and turbulent times. They did what they had to just so they and their children could live another day. Beautiful scenery and costumes and a fine cast make this a very worthwhile and enjoyable few hours. I will no doubt purchase this DVD.
