Stroker Ace (Reynolds) is a race car driver who gets the short end of a contract with a fried-chicken entrepreneur (Ned Beatty) but can be expected to end up with the woman (Pembrook) in compensation -- and actually did (Pembrook is played by Loni Anderson in her first movie with Reynolds).     This movie was okay, but I wouldn't say great. I liked the role Jim Nabors plays but I didn't like Loni Anderson's role very much.

    Time hasn't been good to this movie. Usually a sorry racing movie can be saved with good racing of which this has none. Not very funny except for Jim Nabors hanging off the passenger door to balance off the lost support from the missing left front wheel. Not funny. No Racing.

    The average viewer probably wouldn't like this movie, but if you're a long time NASCAR fan, and/or if you really like Burt Reynolds and some of the cast, you'll probably get some laughs out of this. Would be much better if not for the ridiculous racing footage they shot on the tracks, which didn't even remotely resemble the tracks they were supposed to be racing on. It's so painfully obvious that the cars are only cruising along at maybe 60 to 80mph max, and aren't actually racing. If they would've done a better job with the on-track footage, which admittedly wasn't an easy thing at the time, the movie would've earned at least one more star.
