The title may lead you to believe that this is a documentary about Jimmy Carter's life, it is in some respects but it mainly focuses on his book tour in support of his controversial new book. Some aspects of his childhood and his presidency are touched on a bit but this doc concerns itself with Mr. Carter explaining what the book is about to various media outlets and the critical/public reaction the book received. I think what emerges is a portrayal of a good, honest man who wants to help his fellow man. His positions aren't always popular but through his book he's hoping to provoke a discussion about Palestine that may lead to a change for the better. Some of the negative reviews are more concerned with criticizing his presidency then actually reviewing the film, for them all I can say is that they are doing a disservice to others by deterring people from watching this fascinating portrayal of a man both admired and despised by so many but whose heart is always in the right place.

The book, Palestine: Peace or Apartheid, is reiterating the only successful formula for Peace that has occurred between Israel and its neighbors, and is describing the living conditions of Palestinians under Zionist military rule. Peace between Israel and the Palestinian people is outlined in the Camp David Accords. The movie, Jimmy Carter: Man From Plains, is about the process of bringing that information to Americans, and how difficult it is to deliver an unbiased assessment of Israel's treatment of the Palestinian People. I think that the movie and the book are those of one of the most courageous, intelligent and influential people of our time. Jimmy Carter keeps pushing for Justice and Peace in a world of spin doctors and racists who have developed an Apartheid system in militarily occupied Palestine which is "Worse in many ways than the Apartheid system was in South Africa." I loved the movie and the book, and think that Jimmy Carter is a leader on par with Gandhi.

Unlike Bush the Current and his Poppy, Carter is an intelligent man who has done more good after his presidency (Habitat, the Carter Center) than so many of his forefathers. I hope I have the energy to write provocative books, volunteer unceasingly, and care about this country with actions when I'm in my 70s.
