When the dreadful doctor awakens psychic sleepwalker Cesare (Hellboy's Doug Jones) from his profound slumber to predict Alan's future, the resulting prophecy is endlessly more terrifying than the frightened friends could have ever imagined. In the days that follow, the citizens of Holstenwell fall prey to a grisly series of unsolved murders that prompts Francis to launch a thorough investigation. With the killer fast closing in on Francis' unsuspecting fiancée Jane, the brave husband-to-be must uncover the secret of Dr. Caligari's strange powers before his one and only love suffers a particularly grim fate. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Don't even begin to expect to compare to this to the original. The acting is awful, the dialogue that is added from what's written in the first is ridiculous and unecessary. Don't waste your time with this "Re-make", watch the original again and appriciate it.

First of all, don't mistake this version for the 1919 classic. (For the record: Wiene's masterpiece alternates with *Withnail and I* as my favorite movie all-time.) David Lee Fisher's is a remake--unabashedly imitating scene-for-scene its predecessor. However, it entirely fails to capture the charm, mystery, magic, and threatening disposition of the original. The subtle subversiveness of the frame sequences in the Wiene version are made topics of banal discourse in Fisher's. And the imposing dumbness that the silent era facilitated in 1919 is replaced by disappointingly ordinarily voiced actors, particularly Dr. Caligari himself. Even Doug Jones (brilliant in *Pan's Labyrinth*) couldn't redeem this entirely lifeless tribute to a silent tour de force.

This piece of trash isn't worth watching. Turned it off half way through.
