Sparkle has good acting by Irene Cara, Philip Michael Thomas, Mary Alice and especially Lonette McKee who gives a heart breaking performance as Sister, the drug addicted lead singer of Sister and the Sisters, featuring her and the other two sisters (Cara and Dwan Smith). Even though the performances are good the story is a little jambled. There are a lot of questions to be asked after watching this movie. 1.) What happend to Dwan Smith's character after she descendes from the group? 2.) The movie claims it's about sisters who make from the ghetto to the top but they only perform in local clubs. 3.) What happens to Sister's pimp? And even more questions. But Overrall I enjoyed the acting and the musical performances especially the "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" number.

I truely enjoyed this movie. I can remember when I watched it in the movie theatre in the 70's. The music is great. The story line was very easy to follow. The movie is great. It was good to see where some of today's old actors/actress got their start. This movie is before Dreamgirls.
