The movie was exactly what I expected of Hollywood and Gina Lollobridga beautiful scenery, nice eye candy but totally inaccurate. This movie is good for entertainment however nothing else. This movie makes Solomon to be a virtuous naive patsy and Sheba to be a lust filled treacherous vixen when history paints a way different picture on their meeting especially about who seduced who. But for mindless entertainment its a good movie.

A lot like a DeMille Biblical epic--not a compliment. Battle scenes are impressive, and cinematography by David Lean collaborator Fredie Young is often beautiful. But characters are one dimentional, totally cliched and predictable. Dialog and story are exceedingly bland. Lollobrigida projects a hautiness and distain that make her completely unsimpathetic, even when her character has a change of heart in the last part of the movie, and we are supposed to forgive her and admire her. Costumes are opulant, interior sets evidence penny-pinching. Music is sub-par. Color and image quality is super--Technicolor at it's best.

This movie has very little historical value to it. It loosely based on the Bible and that you have to remember. Yul Brynner plays Solomon and Gina Lollobrigida plays the Queen of Sheba, who's never directly given a name. She starts out trying to destroy Solomon, but ends up falling in love with him. The sets are outlandish, the dialogue is too. The acting which is OK seems completely, and is, out of date. But for all of that it's still a watchable movie. The ending could have used a little work though, as could the action scenes, but still a watchable movie.
