This was a very interesting film for those interested in the role of history in shaping modern politics and views. It took fact on the mixed views of Russians about their Stalinist history and asked a what if?. Interesting and thought-provoking about the direction current Russian politics are taking. With the level of mystery and action involved, this film leaves you guessing and never sure who is going to make it to the end of the film. I can see the argument for the end of the film seeming a little sudden. It doesn't tie things up neatly but only leaves more questions. Does the ending imply a resolution or does it only exacerbate the situation? It's left up to the viewer. I think that is an acceptable ending, however, and reflective of the uncertainty inherent in anything related to politics. I will definitely watch this film again and highly recommend it.

12/10 Independent film starring Daniel Craig as Soviet historian and expert (?) on Stalin. Craig discovers 50 year old conspiracy to bring a leader to Russia in the mold of Stalin. Excellent character actors in minor roles. However, the outcome seemed somewhat predictible to me, from early on, there was really only one way it could end. Still, it was enjoyable entertainment, with a bit of history thrown in. Good Russian locations. Since the movie spends about an hour building the story about who the leader could be it is too bad that some reviewers decide to reveal the plot in the first line of their review. Shame on you.
