I rented this hoping it was a version I saw many years ago but no such luck. However I enjoy watching this version and my husband found it mostly interesting as well. He had never heard this story before so it was new to him and he liked it. Good choice for kids of almost any age as long as they are clear about the difference between make-believe and reality.. I found it amusing that the credits listed many actors and production staff by the last name "Irving". Evidently this was somewhat of an "Irving Family Presentation". All in all truthfully it indeed is cheesy, childish, shallow and predictable but heavens, aren't all fairy tales to adults? Of course they are! It's also colorful, romantic, and a rather "pretty" film. What's not to like from a children's nap-time story... Hope your kids enjoy this as much as mine did.

I actualy recieved this in place of a differnet movie (right sleeve, wrong movie) and though I'd give it a chance. I can't believe this actualy made it to dvd. I've seen better acting from middle school plays, it was even super cheezey as a "kids film". I just can't recomend THIS version of the classic Rumplestiltskin tale.
