Even after all this time, Cosmos, hosted by Carl Sagan, remains a fascinating and enlightening tour of our universe. I consider myself well-read in most areas of science, especially Biology, yet I continually found myself surprised and in awe by the images and explanations Dr. Sagan delivers in his charismatic and easy-to-understand style. I give this series my strongest recommendation to anyone, at any age, interested in learning about the sciences which govern our universe.

I watched the cosmos when I was a kid in grade school and my memories of what I watched on PBS are vague, but I think what appealed to me most was his narration and the earthly perspective he puts on astronomical ideas. Looking into distant galaxies, we see some light as it was before the earth was even formed. When I learned of this as a kid, it really sunk deep into my stomach when I thought about distances so vast that the speed of light became a factor of measurement, not to mention being able to go in my backyard and see back into a time when the earth simply didn't exist. Somehow these ideas gave meaning to being an insignificant solitary earthling. Watching The Cosmos now still does the same thing to me. I certainly didn't understand all of his explanations when I was a kid, but he definitely aroused my interest in science at a very early age. Thank you, Dr. Sagan. I'm just glad I didn't learn of South Park and Aqua Teen Hunger Force till I was in my 20's!
