I got much more from this film than I expected. It's not for those who need a car chase and explosion or two to keep their interest. It's a measured story and requires interest in character over plot...not that there aren't a few surprises along the way. It also is one of the most gorgeously costumed, set, and filmed movies I've seen in a long, long time. Visually, it outdid The Age of Innocence for opulence and extravagance.
I consider this the perfect rainy Sunday afternoon movie!
A great piece of moviemaking with intelligence, depth of characters, a bold convincing story, and fine acting and directing. The costuming and sets were first rate.as everything was. A must see for the movie buff who recognizes and appreciates quality like this. Hats off to all on both sides of the camera.
