The purchase of Manhattan's venerable Larkin's Department Store by a nasty corporate raider (Harley Venton) gets off to a bad start when the accountant who brokered the deal is murdered. Jessica (Angela Lansbury) enters the picture when she finds out that the store's former owner Floyd Larkin (Peter Donat) has been forced to renege on his agreement to donate the original Larkin's building to a new cultural museum.
