When a Michael Jackson impersonator (Diego Luna) living in Paris falls for a Marilyn Monroe impersonator (Samantha Morton) during a performance at a retirement home, the lovestruck pair retreats to a seaside castle in the Scottish highlands populated by a commune of reclusive impersonators. Earning a living can be a difficult endeavor in the City of Lights, and in order to make ends meet, one man has turned to mimicking the King of Pop. One day, while doing the moonwalk in an old folks home, Michael meets a beautiful Marilyn Monroe look-alike. When Marilyn suggests that Michael join her in traveling to the Scottish Highlands and move into a castle populated entirely by celebrity doppelgangers, the would-be gloved one readily accepts her invitation. Shortly after arriving at the castle, Michael and Marilyn find the commune preparing for their first-ever gala -- a lavish affair featuring appearances by Abe Lincoln, the Three Stooges, Buckwheat, Shirley Temple, Madonna, Sammy Davis Jr., and Charlie Chaplin. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

It is difficult to discern the message of this film. All of the visuals are gorgeous, and there seems to be an underlying message about finding one's true self, but the sub-plot about the nuns doesn't seem to really fit. Although, the image of the Three Stooges slaughtering a pen of diseased sheep tends to stick with you. Not as challenging or shocking as Korine's previous work, but there seems to be a genuine sentiment behind the proceedings. If you are into traditional films, steer clear. But if you like taking cinematic risks, I say go for it.

I pride myself in "discovering" hidden gems of film that are challenging and unique. This film was neither. I felt that it's quirkiness was forced and based on a good old- fashioned bad script. The director tried to be artistic but wasn't and ultimately falied to tie the entire plot together and left me feeling annoyed and frustrated.

If you need a movie to help you fall asleep - this is the one! It just dragged on & on & seemed to never end. Diego Luna certainly has Michael's moves down, but never sang or danced to any of Michael's songs. A total waste!
