Alcoholic Lottie Mead (Claire Trevor) bursts into the home of Ralph and James Birdwell (Robert Sampson, Patricia Smith), the couple who have been caring for Lottie's daughter ever since the girl's mother deserted her. Now Lottie declares that she will take the girl away from the Birdwells unless she is given a 25,000-dollar payoff.
