It was patterened after the 1974 version so it had a dis-advantage right there . Overall it was entertaining and the acting was passable. I always enjoy Hauger and Howell and the rest of the main characters did the job well based on what the script demanded!!!IT WAS O.K.

The movie is clearly a "made for tv" affair. It has all the fade outs for commercial insertions and is presented in two parts. I thought that this movie did not do justice to the original. It is boring and predictable. The acting is horrid. I had dental implants the day before I watched this...that was less painful! Don't bother!

Aging stars Rutger Hauer and Steve Guttenberg must have been hard up for money indeed to make an appearance in this ridiculously melodramatic made-for-TV take on Paul Gallico's 1969 yarn of a cruise ship sabotaged by terrorists. After the tolerable first five minutes, in which a raid is conducted on the terrorists' headquarters, the movie hits all engines dead slow. In the last hour, the ship should have sunk three times while the survivors' dialogue covered every imaginable emotional stereotype, ad infinitum. The hardest minutes to watch were Steve Guttenberg's gutless character confessing his sins before fumbling his fearful way across a catwalk above a raging fire below. The investors in this travesty of a film must have had a meltdown when they saw the finished product. Don't mistake this movie for the 2006 remake as I did. You will indeed be sorry you wasted your time.
