A girl struggles not to make the same mistakes that have tainted her mother's life in this drama from Israel. Or (Dana Ivgy) is a high-school-age girl living in a small Tel Aviv apartment with her mother Ruthie (Ronit Elkabetz). Ruthie has spent most of her life working as a prostitute, but with her health on the decline, Or has been forced to become the primary breadwinner in the household, washing dishes, cleaning an apartment building and collecting deposit bottles to help pay the rent when she's not busy with her studies. While Or has lined Ruthie up with a job as a domestic, Ruthie hates the work and finds herself drawn back into her life on the street, much to her daughter's displeasure. Meanwhile, Or has fallen in love with Ido (Meshar Cohen), a boy from her school, but Ido's mother knows what Ruthie does for a living, and doesn't approve of her son dating the daughter of a prostitute, especially as Or finds herself increasingly attracted to Ido. Or (My Treasure) was the first feature film from Israeli writer and director Keren Yedaya. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

OR: MY TREASURE is an ironic title if ever there was one. The film tells the story of a mom hung up on prostitution and the daughter who initially tries to save her and then… But why spoil it? A film like this could have a huge impact (think “Requiem for a Dream”) but in the hands of fourth-time filmmaker Keren Yedaya, there is very little depth here to probe. The movie isn’t all that long but what’s there grows repetitive, and most of the questions you’ll ask about these people are never properly answered. Performances are fine, as far as they go, but like all else here, nothing goes far enough. If you are going to deal with a shocking subject (and this one is), then deal with it: sleazily, ironically, sadly, compassionately--whichever way you choose—but full out. “Or” pulls its punches and ends up leaving a bad taste in your mouth.

if you would have read the details of the movie...you would have known that it was about protistution. you cannot have a "clean " movie with that being the main subject. i thought it was put together well. OR is a child with the responsibilites of an adult, she turns down the wrong path, but she is only repeating what she knows( which works for her) what she has experienced. i am confused as to what happen the the mother , whe she comes back home full of blood? anyone know i missed that, completly. this was an OK movie.
