After I read North and South, it replaced Emma as my favorite book (Pride and Prejudice is 3rd on my list) - and this movie (2 discs) was a good adaption. Richard Armitage handles the intensity of Thornton's character very well. My only disappointment was the liberties taken with the ending. It was satisfying, but in my opinion, not as strong as the book's ending. The cinematography is excellent and the supporting character portrayals are also quite good.

If you like Jane Austen books and movies, as I do, you will like North and South. I was very happy with the quality of the film, the story, and the characters. I may have to buy this for my library.
