An embittered television executive working for a hip-hop-oriented music channel finds her fate intricately tied with a New York City taxi driver after hailing his cab for questionable purposes in director Jeff Stanzler's intimate look at the tenuous relationship between Caucasians and Muslims in post-9/11 America. Phoebe (Robin Wright Penn) hates her job at Q Dog TV, and focuses the brunt of her disgruntled rage squarely on co-worker Phyllis MacIntyre (Sandra Oh). During the course of their extended journey to Phoebe's suburban destination, troubled Muslim cab driver Ashade (Abdel Kechiche) confides to his passenger that the arrest of his brother on charges of suspected terrorism has thrown his family into chaos. Though the increasingly unstable Phoebe listens diligently to Ashade's tragic confession -- even offering to help the distraught Syrian chemist-turned-cab driver's struggling family -- it's only after arriving at his fare's destination that Ashade truly begins to grasp Phoebe's true nature and realize that he has made a grave mistake in placing his trust in her. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

SORRY, HATERS is so shocking in so many surprising ways that I haven't stopped thinking about it for several days. It succeeds as entertainment, provocation & mind-expander, and grows more powerful & mysterious the more you consider it. Robin Wright Penn, who has helped improve movie after movie from "The Princess Bride" through "Forest Gump," "White Oleander" & "Nine Lives," reaches a new plateau here: that of taking absolute ownership of a film. She manages this despite the very fine work of the rest of the cast, which includes Sandra Oh, Josh Hamilton, Elodie Bouchez & an especially rich and beautiful performance from leading man Abdel Kechiche (who is himself writer/director of the 2005 Cesar-winning French film "L'Esquive"). Writer/director of "Sorry Haters," Jeff Stanzler, made the interesting "Jumpin' at the Boneyard" back in 1992. That this 2005 film didn't put Stanzler on the map of big-time moviemakers will remain as mysterious to me as does his movie. This one's a must-see.

This movie knocked my socks off. It plays like a thriller, and also like a drama composed of dysfunctionality and madness at every turn. This is not a movie to glance at while you do chores or have other background randomness going on. The attention you give it repays you. A woman gets in a cab in NYC and the lives of many people are changed forever. Despite the fact that the cab driver is Arab (central to Wright Penn's character and choosing his cab), it is not a political film. What happens to him could not happen to a native born white or black America, so being Arab is definitely a factor and therefore has a political aspect. Amazing movie. Again, amazing movie.

This movie has one of the best, you don't see it coming, endings of all-time; I was left with my my open, thinking: did that really just happened? The storyline examines several complex issues and the acting is top-notch. I picked this up on a whim and was thankful that I did. One of the best releases of 2006. See it.
