Synopsis of The Magician

An Australian contract killer commissions an ambitious film student to make a documentary about his life in director Scott Ryan's caustically cinéma vérité comedy. Ray Shoesmith murders people for a living, and lately he's developed the sneaking suspicion that his own time is running out. Upon learning that his next-door neighbor is an aspiring filmmaker, Ray hires him to record an unbiased document of his existence should he meet an early demise. With the cameras rolling, Ray takes the opportunity to air his frustrations and discuss his various peccadilloes. The result is a film that doesn't wallow in bloodshed, but instead offers candid insight into the mind of a killer by focusing on the playful conversations that unfold while Ray is between jobs, and the bizarre circumstances that dictated his unusual career path. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
