An English priest is sent to the small Irish town of Ballykissangle. I like the dynamic between the main character and the lead female character (the owner of the town pub). I am a fan of several BBC shows and this is close to the top of my list. This is more of a drama but it does have some funny moments in it. If you are a fan of the BBC's stuff I think you would like this.

Having watched the series faithfully when it first aired on BBC America, I was excited to see the series on DVD. The series is actually a comedy-drama with the dry wit for which British are famous. It also portrays -- as I know from personal experience as a clergyman -- some of the more quirky and humorous moments in the lives of priests, in a way that is often humorous but also respectful and realistic. Although I am now a protestant pastor, this series in many ways made me miss my Roman Catholic roots and my former Religious Community. If one does not have a Roman Catholic and/or Irish background, there is a risk that some of subtle humor used in the series will be missed, but I still suggest the show for its beautiful scenery and Irish culture.

This series was recommended by my uncle. Thank you Uncle Dan! Ballykissangel is a place I want to live in. It has an authentic feel about it, especially the people, very much like "All Creatures Great ans Small". This is a subtle "Fish out of Water" story and very believable. It is a refreshing break from murder and mayhem! Very enjoyable.
