This is an odd little film that for all intents and purposes should fail, yet it doesn't. Based on a true story of the rape of a woman of questionable morals by a well-respected doctor, this film has production values commensurate with its budget. The secondary characters are good actors who do a yeoman job with a satisfactory script. I guess the item that gives me the most pause is the lead - Estella Warren. Obviously Ms. Warren has talent. And in this film it shows maybe 25% of the time. When she is being a mother, talking with family members in a calm manner, being contemplative with the prosecutor, she's great. She has a naturalness that equals some of our finest actors. Yet, she is not reined in by her director and too often is shrill, braying and cloyingly annoying in her over-the-top performance. Given the shortcomings, I think I Accuse is ony half the film it could have been. I enjoyed it, but it leaves an unpleasant aftertaste.

It was a compelling story because it was allegedly based on a true case, but there was nothing thrilling or chilling about it.

I had actually seen this on lifetime. I didn't realize it was the same movie. Just okay for me. Nothing thrilling about it.
