An unemployed New York doctor with a suspended license and few prospects for the future travels to Jamaica to care for the ailing brother of a wealthy landowner, only to make a horrifying discovery regarding the ailing man in director Avi Nesher's contemporary re-imagining of Jacques Tourneur's I Walked with a Zombie. Dr. Alice Dodgson (Jennifer Grey) is an open-minded oncologist whose experiments with an unapproved drug have just cost her patient his life and found her license to practice medicine promptly revoked. Subsequently summoned to Jamaica by affluent American Paul Claybourne (Craig Sheffer), Dr. Dodgson is assigned the duty of caring for Claybourne's cancer-stricken brother, Wesley (Daniel Lapaine). Though Dr. Dodgson at first dismisses the local tales of zombies and possession as mere superstition while she cares for the increasingly despondent Wesley, her growing feelings for her patient soon bring her to the realization that Wesley is not suffering from cancer after all, but the powerful curse of a local witch doctor. Now, in order to save the man that she has come to love, Dr. Dodgson must uncover the secret behind the potentially fatal curse while facing off against a vicious voodoo queen with the power to destroy anyone and anything in her path. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This movie starts off really well but becomes repetitious in the middle, with a nice conclusion. They could have cut about 20 minutes out of the middle without loss. Another plus is the extremely attractive/scantily attired Jennifer Grey and her oft-naked sidekick in this movie. The Crypt-keeper intro and closing scenes are dumb. There are a few mistakes also; watch the bat scene and you'll see it's like a rewind. Very odd. The real flaw to the film is the absurd viral angle. I don't want to be a spoiler so I'll just say it's development and Grey's antidote are amazing, and implausible. So, logic isn't the film's main selling point, but it's well worth a rental. BTW, if you like this, try Skeleton Key.

Awful, ethnically/racially stereotypical, the Crypt Keeper in drag, boring, formulaic, and lifeless. This film doesn't deliver zombieism, it gives the viewer insomnia and severe boredom. Pass this one up, it's a disgrace to the Tales From the Crypt series of the 80's and 90's. Blah! Yawn... zzzzzzzz.

Imagine seeing the old Dracula or Frankenstein story for the 1000th time in which the filmmakers made absolutely no effort to make it slightly different and interesting. Thats this movie except its the zombie/voodoo story with hot blooded horny locals. The one plus is its not an ultra low budget camcorder special, so its watchable as long a you want to waste an hour and a half. Its basically a Tales of the Crypt half hour type rush job but it stretched out to a full length movie.
