Oh, Heavenly Dog! (1980)

Oh, Heavenly Dog! (1980)
Member Rating:
Any comedy should be suspect when the lead character, in this case Benjamin Browning, is played both by an actor (Chevy Chase) and a lovable dog (Benji). Private eye Browning is in London tracking down a sexual scandal in British political circles when he is murdered. His karma is canine in form and gets him rebirth as a dog. Fortunately for him, the dog's owner is Jackie Howard (Jane Seymour), a magazine reporter who does not realize that there is a rather lustful man inside her innocent pooch. Benji supplies the few moments of humor in this uneven film. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

My wife and I decided to give this a rent because it was something we remembered enjoying from our childhood. Not a bad movie with some cute qoutes. Kinda plays like a Scooby Doo mystery with a little profanity sprinkled in here and there, but nothing ridiculous. Might be fun the whole family if you don't mind some mild violence and a few "s" bombs.

While the plot is very much a 'Benji' movie, the language and suggestive attitude is very much Chevy Chase. These do not mix for a movie I would recommend to younger people which is what one would expect from a Benji movie.
