WMD: Weapons of Mass Deception (2004)
Member Rating:
Self-described "news dissector" Danny Schechter, who has worked as a producer for a number of major broadcast media outlets (including CNN and ABC News), examines news coverage of the war in Iraq in this activist documentary. In WMD: Weapons of Mass Deception, Schechter explores how the U.S. military and George W. Bush's advisors "stage managed" the Iraq war in order to win a favorable opinion from the public and keep the media's eyes away from issues and situations they found problematic, from using savvy psychology to convince citizens that Iraq possessed certain weapons it never actually had, to "embedding" journalists with companies of troops to produce reports sympathetic to the ground forces. WMD: Weapons of Mass Deception was named Best Documentary in Texas at the 2004 Austin Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

I wonder which one of the two reviews above was written by an intelligent person...

A professional's overview of the Pentagon-managed media coverage beginning with the run-up to, and initial occupation of Iraq. (Up to the "Mission Accomplished" speech on the aircraft carrier). Danny Schechter's years of experience with ABC and CNN provides us a deeper understanding of how the media game works. Nice editing and choice of material, very nicely done narration, too. I'd recommend this along with "Control Room" to get both the US and Arabic perspectives of this issue.

They now found the WMDs. So rent this piece of fiction for a good laugh if you like. Otherwise if you like non biased facts just look it up yourself and see they found warehouses full of shells old or not, they are there black and white.
