This film is a slight departure for Miike San however I think you may find it a pleasant surprise. Typically Miike is known for his modern offbeat work but here he tries his hand at a period piece, that is, after all is said and done a very enjoyable film. The characters are likable and plot dynamic and unexpected. As always Miike's direction is uncanny in how it lulls you into his world. All in all its worth it just to see what life was like in a Tokugawa period prison camp, and actually not all that bad.
