Very thought provoking. If you are of the liberal persuasion, you will like this film. If you are a conservative, you should watch it anyway.

Hagiography can be more appropriate than you might think--when the hero in question is someone like the subject of the lovely documentary HOWARD ZINN: YOU CAN'T BE NEUTRAL ON A MOVING TRAIN. The film gives us Zinn's early life, his work with unions and in the military, his growing concern for and understanding of how America works, his involvement in Vietnam and onwards into our post-9/11 world. I'd call him a real patriot, unlike the current set of sleaze-bags who parade their "patriotism" while robbing us blind of everything worthwhile: environment, capital, and decency (and that's only three of many). Recommend this to your Republican friends who still maintain some equilibrium and kindness; see if it rings bells for them in ANY manner. As Zinn would tell us, these are the people we need to win. And you never know where and when the seed of truth will take root.

Whether you agree with Mr. Zinn or not, this documentary is a brief exporation into critical thinking and democratic consciousness. It brought back our contemporary history and the ideals which we all strive for in a free country. This is responsible activism at its best. It is a challenge to our militaristic culture and its own assumptions, as if violence can be controlled. Give peace a chance.
