Dead Fish is a real sinker! There have been hundreds of movies about mistaken identity due to the switching of suitcases, cell phones or hotel rooms and the like. This one is at the bottom of the list. There is about 1/2 hour of movie and another 60 minutes of padding to this very poor film. Robert Carlyle appears every few minutes as a loan shark to yell and scream and swear. Billy Zane and Karel Roden have long and boring speeches throughout the picture and are only very loosely connected to the weak plot. Terence Stamp has about two minutes of screen time even through he is the fish. The weak boyfriend and his drug addict friend are two of the most unsympathetic characters that I have ever seen. It is unbelievable that one of the world's greatest contract killers, Gary Oldman, would simply fall hopelessly in love with someone he has only briefly met even if she is Elena Anaya. Did I mention that Dead Fish is a real stinker!
Odd? Yes, however, a captivating performance by Oldman, and an interesting plot turn by Director Charley Stadler. Every character is secluded in his-her own little world, making for very comedic interactions. Great score, I must say.
