The body of a prep school student has been discovered in a nearby river, and though the death was originally listed as a suicide one detective believes that it may have actually been the result of a fraternity hazing gone awry in director Nick Willing's snowbound mystery. Detective Abel Grey (Edward Burns) isn't willing to write off the case as a suicide just yet, and with a little help from sympathetic teacher Betsy Chase (Jennifer Ehle) he hopes to uncover the truth behind the mysterious and untimely death. As a series of elusive clues lead Detective Grey ever closer to the truth, he is forced to confront not only the increasingly complex facts in the case of the student death, but his own repressed emotions related to the suicide of his older brother years earlier as well. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This film took a long time to tell a simple story, but at least the scenery was pretty. If anyone figures out what the last scene was supposed to mean, please tell the rest of us. I was either half asleep or it was much too deep for my comprehension.

I typically really enjoy deep movies with deep characterizations and meaning. This movie had potential...but I kept waiting for the intensity to pick up and it never came. Edward Burns was actually OK, but in general I would not recommend this movie.

drops you at the end. Like other reviews here, I felt many focused points throughout, that the director explores, were simply not explained (fish in the coat pocket, stain on the wall) to the viewer in the end. Most mystery movies take twists and you learn to expect the unexpected. This flick tells you straight out how the death occurred and then simply bears that out in the end....very disappointing, with little risk taking and fluidity on the director's part.
