Tru Calling [TV Series] (2003)
Member Rating:
The weekly, 60-minute Fox series Tru Calling was the strange saga of medical graduate student Tru Davies (Eliza Dushku). When her grant money was abruptly terminated, Tru was forced to make ends meet with a night-shift job at a Boston morgue. It was there that our heroine discovered her ability to communicate with certain of her deceased "clients"; she was then able to relive the events of the previous day, and in so doing prevent the death of the person with whom she had communicated -- or, at the very least, to resolve that person's other problems, thereby averting disaster of a more wide-ranging variety. Alas, Tru had plenty of problems of her own, what with her brother Harrison (Shawn Reaves), a chronic gambler, and her sister, Meredith (Jessica Collins), a drug-addicted lawyer. Also, Tru had to deal with her doubting boss, Davis (Zach Galifianakis), as well as a sinister chap named Jack Harper (Jason Priestley), who was introduced halfway through the series' initial season. Jack possessed the same psychic "gift" as Tru -- but instead of saving people from death, he merely wanted to make certain that they stayed dead. Created by Jon Harmon Feldman, Tru Calling deftly balanced its supernatural and sometimes horrific aspects with wry humor and touching humanity. The series debuted October 30, 2003. ~ Rovi

Fans of Buffy , Charmed & Veronica Mars will enjoy this Sci-Fi/Fantasy Drama that starts out slow but eventually becomes quite entertaining. Some great stories, characters & actors in this one. It can get a little ridiculous at times but then again it's a fantasy type show. While toe tagging corpses at the city morgue, Tru Davies (Eliza Dushku) finds she has the ability to hear the unnaturally dead reach out to her for help, instantly sending her back one day in time so she can try and right what went wrong. Sometimes Nancy Drew with a little C.S.I. This was a pretty good show that never had a chance, being prematurely cancelled by FOX. I'd wish Sci-fi network would have picked it up. It might still be on. Dushku and Galifianakis (as Davis, Tru's boss and "do over day" sidekick) steal the show. Give it a try, you could do a lot worse.

My husband and I both LOVE this show. We think the network people were not too bright for cancelling it. It has a little of everything: drama, comedy, sci-fi, spookiness, romance, etc. It is very hard for Tru (the lead character) because in reliving days, she has to try to remember that the people she met "yesterday" (she says in the show "MY yesterday") that she hasn't actually met them yet, and sometimes doesn't succeed. One funny comment in the show about that, someone asked her if she had met a nice guy, and she said "I think I met him TOO many times" it was hilarious and kinda sad at the same time. The best episode was "The Longest Day", where she relives the same day multiple times; EXCELLENT episode worthy of several Emmy's. Give it a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I love this show. Eliza Dushku does an amazing performance as a med student working at a morgue. Her name is Tru Davies, and she has developed a certain gift after her mom dies to see people before their final hours of death. Her everyday life is a re-run, where on the first day someone dies, and on the second day, she tries to find the person before they "really" die. So her day completely rewinds all over again, but she saves lives. There is definitely a lot of mystery and suspense in each episode, and if you are a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I recommend it , because it has Eliza Dushku in it. Each episode is 110% thrilling and I'm am so sad that it was cancelled in the making of the second season. 5 ttttttttt stars!!!!!!!
