Dragnet: The Squeeze (1968)

Dragnet: The Squeeze (1968)
When smug ex-con George Fox (John Sebastian) is suspected of attempting to extort a local businessman, Sgt. Friday (Jack Webb) and Officer Gannon (Harry Morgan) confront him with evidence that, although it appears to implicate him, fails to make Fox break a sweat. The entry of a second party into the criminal mix leads the duo to assume that Fox killed Paul Carter (the other suspect), though a third suspect by the name of Jack Rock is nowhere to be found. Yet another phone call -- from whom the detective suspects is Rock -- reveals a stark threat to the businessman, but Friday and Gannon reveal their trump card in the form of a voice recognition system. Realizing that his back is against the wall, the extortionist winds up admitting his guilt and taking the rap for Carter's murder. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
