Man-Thing (2005)

Man-Thing (2005)
Member Rating:
Directed by Brett Leonard, Man-Thing is based on a comic book series of the same name from Marvel Comics. When one of real-estate tycoon F.A. Schist's crewmen is killed while developing a drilling station, it's the local Seminole Indian tribe who are blamed, though they know that the real culprit is the Man-Thing, a vengeful Spirit inhabiting the body of fallen radical shaman, Ted Sallis. The monster resembles a towering mound of algae and plant life, with powers that can command plant life to take out the infringing human greed on its Louisiana swampland (with Australia sitting in for the Southern Bayou). Man-Thing features performances from Rawiri Paratene, Alex O'Lachlan, Rachel Taylor, Jack Thompson, and William Zappa. Long-delayed, the film bounced from home video to theatrical then over to cable as Lionsgate and Marvel debated the format that it'd be most successful. Eventually the film premiered on the Sci Fi Channel, and featured little resemblance to the comic character beside its use of names and basic creature design. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

because it is wrong. I don't know where they got it but it was not from this movie. There is no scientist, no testing of serums, no body bursts into flame. What you have is a fantastic b-movie with decent acting and amazing special effects. Man-thing is actually a discraced/murdered indian leader returned from the grave to take revenge on everybody. The mood is cool, the creature effects are awesome and the movie is enjoyable.

I like B-movies, and I like marvel, with that said I figured I would enjoy this movie. I got out of it exactly what I thought I would. Half decent effects, a little gore, and a story that barely floats along. Just think of this as a "Creature Feature" movie from marvel, not "Spider Man" or "X-men", but better than "Daredevil".

Being a Marvel fan and being blessed to live in a time when great movies can be made had me wishing that this would be another Marvel classic. Nope! I gave up without even watching the entire movie. It took too long to get started and once it did get moving, it was just a snoozer. This one is one to skip.
