A pair of innocent children from two radically different backgrounds and cultures learn an important life lesson in tolerance and understanding in filmmaker Bruce Neibaur's affectionate tale of friendship in the face of prejudice. Upon discovering a weathered crayon drawing in an old family trunk, Ira is transported back to a magical summer in 1965. As an eleven-year-old girl relishing her last days of freedom before beginning work on her family's beet farm, Ira befriended a young migrant worker hired by her father. Despite the bitter hostility shown to migrant workers by the local population, Ira's friendship with young Mexican Oscar gave her a new outlook on life and taught her how to be a true friend and stand tall for her beliefs at any cost. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
