A terrifying legacy haunts a single mother in this sequel to the frightening box-office hit The Ring. Hoping to leave their terrifying experiences in Seattle behind them, Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) and her son, Aidan (David Dorfman), move to the small town of Astoria, OR, where Rachel takes a job writing for the local newspaper. When Rachel learns of an unexplained murder, which occurred after a teenager watched a strange videotape with his girlfriend, she suspects her past is following her and she begins looking into the case. Rachel believes that the otherworldly Samara has come back; however, as she tries to convince others of the young girl's powers, her own son falls ill and is hospitalized, and Rachel's stories fail to convince either Dr. Emma Temple (Elizabeth Perkins), who suspects Rachel is guilty of child abuse, or David Rourke (Simon Baker), one of Rachel's colleagues who fears for Aidan's safety. Also starring Sissy Spacek, The Ring 2 was directed by Hideo Nakata; it was the first English-language project for the Japanese filmmaker, who previously made Ringu, the picture that was the basis for The Ring. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

This movie even though had the same actors it seemed that there was a different feeling to this one, it seemed that this one had less tension but still managed to keep interest until the end and that means good directing. Some scenes were cool like the bathroom scene and the well scene and I say this a better overall than the first.

Wow this sequel is very meh. For one it is very uncharacteristic of what the first one sets up for us as the rules of the franchise. Instead of horses we get deer, but whats even more funny is how they explain them in a secret basement that we never heard of from the first film hahahaha. The explanation of why everything is happening to Aidan is really ridiculous and randomly thought out. Instead of trying to keep the cycle going, now Rachel is fighting to keep the evil out of our world, only to learn that its cause the well was never properly closed? What's sad is that most of the characters in this film are not needed, sucks for Simon Baker though, he'll always have The Mentalist. What's really sad is the special features includes the short film Rings, which is way more interesting in its entirety of 16min, compared to the snorefest of 2hrs of this whole film. The only plus in this film, Naomi Watts still looks as dashing as ever

a good tale told too many times. The Japanese versions of RIngu were first and innovative and scary in a way unlike Hollywood. American Special effects are better than the originals They may have another sequel in mind but the regurgitated story line is tired at this point.
