Go Further (2003)

Go Further (2003)
Member Rating:
Documentary filmmaker Ron Mann joined Hollywood actor/hemp activist Woody Harrelson as the thespian traveled up the West Coast preaching the merits of natural, organic living, the result of which is Mann's 2003 film, Go Further. In 2001, Harrelson and a group of friends and other like-minded individuals hopped on bicycles -- accompanied by a psychedelically decorated bus converted to run on hemp-seed oil -- and thus created the SOL (Simple Organic Living) Tour. Along the way, the actor made many stops which ranged from speaking at college campuses to meeting up with 1960s counter-culture guru Ken Kesey (who died not long after). The SOL group encountered a number of people that also lead pro-ecological ways of life, as well as some other folks that were just as skeptical or hostile toward the neo-hippies. Go Further premiered at the 2003 South by Southwest Film Festival. ~ Ryan Shriver, Rovi

Woody talks about leaving a "small footprint" on this earth. I guarantee you I left a MUCH smaller footprint on my cross-country bike trip than he did. If you're going to spread a message about being more earth-friendly, than do it in Washington DC. He spent his time preaching to the choir along the west coast.

Not all vegans are radical extremist animal rights activists like this movie seemed to portray to me. I love animals and I don't eat meat but there's no way I would ever go to one those kooky earth lover retreats! I love the ultimate message of the movie, but it really was not that informative or convincing to non-believers. Watch "Food, Inc." if you really are concerned about the diet of you and your family.

This movie could have had much better impact if it was done in the same way Al Gore did the film about our enviroment and global warming. They should have maybe showed me what's happening, why it's happening, and finally how I can make some small changes to start. Instead the movie had a "you people are wrong" but you can be better if you become a "Flower Child" like us kind of message. Granted, the stuff they talk about is for the most part true. Corporate America is destroying our country for profit piece by piece and I believe many of us know this and sometimes stick our heads in the sand and pretend it doesn't exist. The other thing I got from the film was how irresponsible members of Woody's group are in general. If you pay attention you will see their stupidity throughout. Anyway, far more examples and demostrations of how I can help would have been much better.
