What's a middle-aged woman to do when her husband walks out on her and her favorite pop star is murdered by a serial killer? Writer/director P.J. Hogan explores this and many other pressing questions in Unconditional Love, a comic murder-mystery he devised with his wife and co-screenwriter, Jocelyn Moorhouse. Their heroine, Grace Beasly (Kathy Bates), finds her placid Midwestern life turned upside down after she loses both of the aforementioned men in her life: her husband (Dan Aykroyd) and the Tom Jones-like, Welsh singing star Victor Fox (Jonathan Pryce), whom she unabashedly worships. After Fox's death, Grace impetuously flies to England for his funeral. Paying an uninvited visit to his countryside estate, she discovers Dirk Simpson (Rupert Everett), Fox's longtime, secret live-in lover, who's also in a state of shock following the senseless murder. Together, the two team up, traveling back to the Windy City to find the infamous "Crossbow Killer" who took Fox's life. After receiving a fall 2002 release in the U.K., Unconditional Love had its U.S. premiere on the Starz network in August 2003. ~ Michael Hastings, Rovi

This is the most improbable film I've seen in years. Nothing about it rings true. And maybe I'm crazy, but here goes: I LOVED IT. This comedy/murder mystery about the death of a pop singer from England and the dumped Chicago housewife who was his biggest fan boasts a cast of first-rate actors who are obviously having as much fun as we are watching them. Kathy Bates, Rupert Everett, Jonathyn Price, even Julie Andrews (in an unbelievably funny cameo) bring real joy to the screen. Lynn Redgrave as one of a trio of sisters to the dead guy proves once again she is every bit as talented as any character actor. Don't miss this romp. P.J. Hogan's direction, as well as his contribution to the script, bring delightful momentum to this ultimately sentimental film.

Went into this movie thinking, "Yeah right. This is supposed to be good?" I LAUGHED almost the entire movie. It's hilarious. Everyone needs to rent this movie. My children who are 10 & 7 also loved it.

aparently, the director has a lot of favors owed to him, with the amount of star power cameos in this movie. if you like showtunes... you'll adore this movie. does a serious 180 half way through. jonathan price does a wonderful job singing. the dwarf (thats what she calls herself... don't bag on me) in the movie is funny as hell. some good movie references too. keeps you watching... payoff in final scene is worth it. kathy bates is always good (even in a horrible movie like rat race!).
