Director Martin Brest, of Going in Style and Beverly Hills Cop fame, was in charge of Midnight Run. Robert De Niro stars as Jack Walsh, a hard-bitten bounty hunter offered $100,000 to bring in embezzler Jonathan Mardukas (Charles Grodin). Handcuffed to the wimpy Mardukas, Walsh assumes that the extradition trip from New York to Los Angeles will be an uneventful one. But the prisoner hasn't told Walsh the whole story: the embezzler owes $15 million to a mobster (Dennis Farina), and he's been targeted for assassination. It's a toss-up as to what is the most entertaining aspect of Midnight Run: the slam-bang action and chase sequences or the verbal byplay between DeNiro and Grodin. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Reading the description, thought we were taking a chance but it was really well done and we enjoyed every minute. Good casting, good acting, good story line. DeNiro and Grodin are such opposites - one of the reasons it worked so well.

Midnight Run is one of the best buddy/ road movies ever, if you don't mind profanity a couple dozen times. A feel-good cop drama with chase scenes and well-written dialogue. Top performances by both Charles Grodin & Robert DeNiro.

I enjoyed this movie as much the second time around as I did when it first played on the big screen in 1988. If you are a fan of action, comedy, a few heartfelt moments, and you're not offended by the "F-Bomb, which I've got to be honest gets thrown around so much in a humorous manner that you may not consider it profanity. The storyline is exceptional and the chemistry between DeNiro and Grodin is so real that it appears effortless. From the Feds, to the Gangsters, to the sleezy Bail Bondsmen, each and every character is extremely believable in their role. Great rental! You will be entertained!
