The final installment to the Matrix Trilogy disappointed some because the answers don't come easily. If you saw the 1st Matrix you know it's appeal is in more than action, but it's philosophy (Plato's Alagory of the Cave). The ideas in the 1st film although greatly entertaining; are much less involved than 2 & 3; would you really want it any other way? The ideas involved in the last 2 Matrix films are much more difficult to grasp (choice, destiny, causality). These are films that can & should be watched more than once to grasp the complex ideas they deal with. The last 2 films (filmed together) are essentially one story. The final Matrix doesn't disappoint and you'll be glad that the answers are not simply handed over. Of course the action and effects were amazing & groundbreaking for their time, but what really separates the Matrix is thought. If your not interested in a movie that makes to think then you'll still love the action, you just won't fully understand the plot.

Charity rating only because this episode is a whole lot better than the second (Reloaded), which doesn't say much. This one has a little more story and less stupid kung-fu (at least this time the legions of Smiths just stand around and watch the main man). There are just too many untied ends: why does super-dude even tolerate all these other entities (Neo, the Oracle) if he is as powerful as all that? Who the heck is he anyway? How does the Merovingian get all this power? What is the actual story with the Oracle? Assuming that the intent was to leave room for more sequels, OK, all that can be overlooked - but the ending between Mr. Smith and Neo simply doesn't make sense, as in , "what just happened there? How did that work?" If you've already invested time with the first 2, then you might as well see it through to completion but don't expect much improvement. If you're just thinking about whether to watch the series - it might have been interesting in 1999 but not now.

Good, not great ending to the series that leaves you asking....what exactly happens to Neo. The battle scenes are cool, but the final chapter is grim, and not as much sci fi as the other two. Certainly not as much kung fu fighting. It also leaves the possibility of another trilogy.
