As Jim's love grows ever stronger, Yan's visions fade, and it isn't long before the visions transfer into the horrified eyes of the caring doctor. Now haunted by the very same specters that plagued Yan, his memories of a girlfriend's suicide 20 years prior begin to surface. If the power of love was enough to drive away Yan's ghosts, will her love be enough to help Jim confront his dark past and vanquish the restless spirits? ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I have to say I am really enjoying the horror movies coming out of the far east. I have yet to really be let down by them. I can always be guaranteed of a creative story line and this one did not let me down as well. If you are a fan of the 6th Sense, The Ring/Ringu, etc. etc. and don't mind the subtitles, then this is right up your alley. If you know the details of Leslie Cheung's death, you'll find the ending somewhat ironic as well. Creepy even.

Inner Senses straddles the two genres throughout the entire movie, never committing to either one, which will frustrate some. Leslie Cheung plays a psychologist who, naturally, doesn't believe in ghosts. Karena Lam plays the girl whose "delusions" he's trying to cure. The two leads are wonderful--a good thing, as the story would otherwise completely lack interest. Leslie Cheung in particular, is very lovable. If I were seeing a shrink, I'd want it to be him. The movie is a class act--the script is literate and never goes for the low blow and the technical credits are mostly excellent without being attention-grabbing. But somehow it's not enough to lift the Inner Senses into the must-see category. You probably won't be bored, but you won't be telling all your friends to rent it, either.

While not scary, this movie does qualify as one of the spookier horror movies to come out of Hong Kong that can be taken seriously. The acting and directing were good. The special effects were surprisingly good and definitely unexpected in a Chinese horror film. The soundtrack was very good and created an appropriately spooky environment. However, the writing was the weak point and generally made the movie seem boring between the dramatic scenes. The DTS ES audio option made excellent use of surround sound. As for extras, there's two trailers for the movie, a "The Making of Inner Senses" featurette (11:22 min) and filmographies for the two leads and the director. Recommended.
