Mania is the venerable Burke and Hare story, previously cinematized by producer Val Lewton as The Body Snatcher. Peter Cushing plays a respectable 19th-century Edinburgh doctor who needs fresh cadavers in order to continue his crucial research. Since the exhuming of bodies for medical purposes is illegal, Lee must rely upon grave-robbers George Rose and Donald Pleasance for his corpse supply. What Lee doesn't know is that Rose and Pleasance frequently cut out the middleman by "creating" their own corpses. The good doctor catches on when the latest cadaver turns out to be his own fiancee.     Great movie, good Plot! How could it not be with Peter Cushing & Donald Pleasance? Well...these long-gone actors knew how to be in movies, and knew what made movies GOOD! May both of them REST IN PEACE!!

    The only reason i rented this movie is because Peter Cushing stars in it. Before watching I had no idea it was a black and white movie but after watching it does not matter because it turned out to be on of the best thriller movies i have seen. Cushing is as eligant as always but rest of the supporting cast is brilliant too. Story line is interesting and camera work is first class. This must be one of the high point of Cushing's distinguished career. defintitely one of his best movies and a must watch for his fans. hats off!

    Creepshow master Donald Pleasance plays the evil influence to his landlord. My my, couldn't he just do the dirty work himself? As for Peter Cushing, I think his role was brilliant. He plays a man that is totally absorbed in his science, but shows a softer side when he gets a visit from his niece. And what a about his loser student who he manages to get some work out of ? Oh well, it's only black and white, but you get the idea that Edinburgh was a rough town with a top notch medical school which also had easy access to a fresh corpse or two. I think I will forget this movie. Mary Shelly's "Frankenstein" has a much better take on professional graverobbers.
