The Bachelor [TV Series] (2002)

The Bachelor [TV Series] (2002)
Member Rating:
The ABC "reality" series The Bachelor explored the mercenary nature of mankind in ways undreamed of in the late, unlamented one-shot special Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire? The central "character" was Alex Michel, a handsome, 31-year-old Harvard grad and management consultant. As a fairly prosperous bachelor, Michel was chosen by the series' producers to live in a posh Malibu beachfront mansion, while 25 eligible females (all of whom, by an amazing coincidence, looked terrific in bikinis and low-cut gowns) competed to become Mrs. Michel. Among the gorgeous candidates were two lawyers, a doctor, a Kansas event planner, and -- surprise, surprise -- a brace of Hooters waitresses. Beginning with a lavish party for Michel and his "harem," the series, which was spread out over "six romantic weeks," followed the standard pattern of backbiting, conniving, and wheedling, with several ladies disqualified from further play on each episode. The Bachelor debuted on March 25, 2002. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
