to some degree. I can actually see both POVs above --- the one bashing this film and the other praising it. At BB there are tons of horror films so bad in terms of low level of competence and with such low budgets and terrible acting that even the cheesiest, worst B movies on cable seem far better. This film actually seriously tries to create an atmosphere of creepy horror and comes very close to pulling it off. Whats missing is the production values of a decent Hollywood film. Its no where as bad as many BB horror flicks but, it does seem like one of those foreign, euro horror productions from the 70s-80 where the actors dont quite seem top notch and effects look a bit obviously like rubber. However the director is serious about creating an eerie Lovecraftian atmosphere, as some vacationers find themselves in an isolated, dark, decrepit, decaying fishing village filled with horrors.

Haha...I'm surprised to see the high reviews for this movie, since it's an acquired taste. It's a very good movie if you like ReAnimator and it has a lot of spooky atmosphere. All good campy Gordon fun here.

It's a horror flick, and not big budget, so don't expect eye-popping effects. That said, if you're a fan of suspense horror, as opposed to hack and slash horror, you'll probably like this film. If you are a fan of H.P. Lovecraft, this is a must see. It does a good job, within it's effects/director/actors budget of creating a disturbing reality, which remains true to Lovecraft's writing style. I personally feel it is one of the closest interpretations of his style in film, with minimal deviations required by the broader horror genre.
