His victim was one of the most famous musical icons of the 20th century. A&E documents the moments leading up to the singer's demise in American Justice: John Lennon Assassination. Chapman was considered a friendly and well-liked man most of his life. While working at the YMCA and a Vietnamese refugee camp, he was lauded for his rapport with children. But, inside, Chapman harbored a deep self-hatred. He thought he was a failure and attempted suicide a number of times. One fateful night, Chapman's loathing was transferred to the famous Beatle after Lennon made an unpopular comment comparing the group to Jesus.
