Lorna Doone (2001)

Lorna Doone (2001)
Member Rating:
Filmed in London and Wales, this two-part adaptation of the oft-dramatized R.D. Blackmore novel Lorna Doone was praised for its realism, though one or two nitpickers pointed out that the costumes were not all "in period" for 17th century Scotland. This time around, Amelia Warner starred as the titular Lorna, whose romance with young John Ridd (Richard Coyle) was imperiled by the bloody, long-standing feud between the Doones and the Ridds. The show was stolen by Martin Clunes in the flashy role of the redoubtable Jeremy Stickles. Lorna Doone aired over BBC1 on December 24 and 26, 2000. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Richard Coyle was quite brilliant. Close enough to the book to not disappoint. Great romance. Aiden Gillen (Carver Doone) wan less convincing, but still well worth watching.

Very good movie. Stars Richard Coyle of BBC's Coupling series. 17th century love story. Good vs. evil.

As a fan of historically based movies, I really enjoyed this show. It's considered a romance, but even my husband enjoyed it. He's more of an action/adventure movie type and this movie had plenty of action and intrigue. He enjoyed this movie much more than other period films I like, such as "Pride and Predjudice" or "Sense and Sensibility".
