With their tough, ominous beats from DJ Muggs and hard, street-smart rhymes that celebrated weed and their own cool above all else, Cypress Hill had a sound and style that set them apart from other hip-hop acts when they released their debut album in 1991, and their fusion of hip- hop beats and Latin rhythms, their strength as a live act, and their alliances with a number of alternative rock acts made them true pioneers.
