Soldiers in the Army of God (2000)
Member Rating:
Anti-abortion extremists who encourage the harassment of clinic employees -- and in some cases violence and murder against the doctors -- go under the microscope in this documentary produced for the premium cable network HBO. Interview subjects include Neal Horsley, who created the outlawed Internet site "The Nuremberg Files," which posted the names and home addresses of doctors believed to perform abortions; Paul Hill, who is currently serving time in a Florida prison after killing employees of an abortion clinic in Pensacola; and Rob Lokey, a self-described leader of this movement. Directors Marc Levin and Daphne Pinkerson also interview a number of pro-choice activists, who explain their struggle to protect a woman's right to a safe and legal abortion from the likes of Lokey and his followers. Soldiers in the Army of God was screened at the 2000 Toronto Film Festival as part of its documentary series "Real to Real." ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Well, they are extremists aren't they? Extremism and violence isn't always wrong, but it depends on the context. Embryos can't rationally be said to have a right-to-life because they aren't self-aware, conscious, and have no interests in survival outside of those projected upon it. I could project those same interests upon a rock or grass. Killing a human or a cow or other sovereign, developed creature for any reason, least of all for the sake of an embryo, is inexcusable as they are "subjects of a life" where an embryo is not. No one should pretend that abortion is an easy issue and we ought to all personally view what it entails ("Three...Extremes" has a great scene of a fictional abortion that made me pay more attention to the issue), but despite its divisiveness, it's too morally significant to let state governments decide.

i didn;t really learn any thing or get any insight from this movie, and that's really what i like to get from a documentary.

This movie helps illustrate how irrational religion makes people think. I had no idea how extreme some anti-abortion people are. They are a domestic terrorism cell in the USA. In a way their position on the issue seems to make sense but one must realize there are more dimensions to this issue than there seems. Without religious dogma and nonsense I do not believe these people would have carried out their violent attacks. Just like the 9/11 hijackers wouldn't have committed their acts without the inspiration of Islam.
