Indiscreet (1958)

Indiscreet (1958)
Member Rating:
Adapted by Norman Krasna from his play Kind Sir, Indiscreet stars Ingrid Bergman as a wealthy actress and Cary Grant as an international financial wizard. While Grant is visiting London, Bergman's sister Phyllis Calvert and brother-in-law Cecil Parker introduce Grant to Bergman. Because he feels he has no time for marriage, Grant pretends to be married to avoid romantic tangles. Bergman, however, finds the prospect of an affair with a married man to be quite exhilarating. When she discovers the truth, Bergman gets even with the now-smitten Grant by faking a romance with an ex-boy friend--ordering luckless chauffeur David Kossoff to pose as her beau. A comedy by grownups, about grownups and for grownups (at least by 1958 standards), Indiscreet proved to be far more successful as a film than as a stage play. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

I loved this movie with the terrific acting and gorgeous costumes. Seems like a more sophisticated version of the romantic comedy than what one would expect from today's offerings in the genre. It's a wonderful date movie, or lovely to watch alone with popcorn in the evening with a fire - or just a cozy blanket!

A well-written script, a well-contrived plot, and delectible fashion perfectly framed Bergman and Grant. Everytime he graces the screen, Grant's suave and intense presence brings sets to life. Paired with Bergman's aristocratic airs and amazing talent, Grant and his leading lady create the perfect love affair. I highly recommend it!

The quintessential Cary Grant! Suave, debonair with a touch of the comic. He is always a pleasure to watch and in this film, Ingrid Bergman is his perfect foil. Add to the mix the GORGEOUS clothes and it's a perfect movie for a quiet Sunday afternoon! Why can't they make movies like this these days?
